If you are in Vancouver and want to meet an Olympian outside their competition venue, there’s only one place to go: Wing Sang Building at 51 East Pender Street, in the heart of Chinatown, just after the Millennium Gate. Vancouver’s Chinatown is one of the biggest Chinese quarters in North America. In Chinatown’s oldest building, which retains its 1880’s charm, but has a completely renovated interior, there is an exclusive zone: the Olympians Reunion Centre.
Here’s an historical reference. It was in Atlanta in 1996 that the idea of a centre was born, the fruit of a partnership between the IOC, the World Olympians Association (WOA) and world Olympic partner Visa.
Since its creation, this centre has allowed more than 10,000 Olympians to meet up, get together and follow the Olympic events live.
And, as you can read on the façade of the Wing Sang Building: “Everything is going to be alright” here in Vancouver.
