MEETING OF IOC ACCREDITED LABS IN MONACO

Monaco, 23 April 2001 - The heads of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) accredited laboratories met today in Monaco to discuss several topics of importance.

The latest data regarding the reporting threshold for 19-norandrosterone, the metabolite of nandrolone, were reviewed. It was confirmed that the current thresholds of 2 nanograms per millilitre in urine for males and 5 nanograms per millilitre in urine for females were safe to distinguish natural production from administration.

Athletes were once again cautioned about the dangers of taking nutritional supplements that may contain prohibited substances. Plans to extend the availability of tests for EPO were presented, building on the experience of the Games of the XXVII Olympiad in Sydney.
