MEETING BETWEEN THE IOC AND FIFA
Lausanne, 25 February 2000 - What:
A news conference will be held following the meeting between the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the International Football Federation Association (FIFA) on 1 March in Lausanne.
The IOC President and FIFA President Joseph S. Blatter, together with representatives including IOC Member Franco Carraro and FIFA Vice-President Antonio Matarrese, will primarily discuss the Sydney 2000 Men’s Olympic Football Tournament. They will review the participation of players who would otherwise be playing with their clubs, which, especially in Europe, would have already started international competition at the time of the Olympic Games.
Other points on the agenda will include an update on the reforms voted by the IOC 110th Session last December, the issue of a football court of arbitration, the cooperation between FIFA and the United Nations, the harmonisation of the international football calendar, the situation of international sports federations based in Switzerland, and the joint development programme between the FIFA and Olympic Solidarity.
