McDonald's extends Olympic Games partnership through to 2012
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) and McDonald's announced today, 26 February 2004, in Beijing, that McDonald’s has extended its global sponsorship agreement up until the Games of the XXX Olympiad in 2012. This marks the first time that McDonald's has renewed its sponsorship for four consecutive Olympic Games. With this partnership renewal, McDonald's joins Coca-Cola, Atos Origin (formerly Schlumberger), General Electric, John Hancock, Kodak, Panasonic, Samsung, Swatch and Visa in The Olympic Partner (TOP) programme.
A long-time valued friend and partner
Commenting on the announcement, IOC President Jacques Rogge said, "McDonald’s is a long-time valued friend and partner of the IOC and the Olympic Movement. This continued commitment to the Olympic ideals plays a key role in the success of the Olympic Games themselves, and the ability of young athletes around the world to achieve their dreams. We are delighted that our partnership with McDonald’s will carry on for the next two quadrenniums and believe this long-term agreement is a reflection of their confidence in the Olympic Movement".
Official Restaurant of the Olympic Games
The agreement with the Olympic Movement, which includes sponsorship of the National Olympic Committees and their Olympic teams, positions McDonald's as the Official Restaurant of the Olympic Games for the four Olympic Games following Athens 2004 ( Turin in 2006, Beijing in 2008, Vancouver in 2010; and the Olympic Games in 2012, for which the host city has yet to be selected.)

IOC Marketing Commission Chairman Gerhard Heiberg added: "McDonald's has long been a strong supporter of the Olympic Games. We are very pleased that McDonald's will continue to serve Olympians well into the future, working with us to promote sport and inspire active lifestyles".

The 2004 Games of the Olympiad in Athens mark McDonald's fourth Olympic Games as a TOP sponsor and fifth as the Official Restaurant of the Olympic Games.
