Mascot launch for Turin 2006: tomorrow!

Tomorrow in Rome, Turin 2006 will launch the official mascot for the XX Olympic Winter Games. The event will include a press conference, a cocktail launch and a big mascot party for more than 4,000 invited guests.

500 days to go

The media and guests will discover the mascot in all its different forms and formats. The event marks the 500-day countdown to the Turin Olympic Games.

Key element for marketing and communication

For all Olympic Games, mascots are a key element for communications and marketing, as well as the number-one merchandising article. Each mascot also embodies the values of the Games and incorporates the key message of the event.

237 proposals

TOROC, the Organising Committee for the XX Olympic Winter Games, received 237 proposals for the mascot. From among these candidates, five finalists were selected and asked to develop different applications. The winning design was finally selected by the TOROC President's Office.

First official mascot in 1972

The first official mascot, Waldi the dachshund, was launched on the occasion of the 1972 Olympic Games in Munich. An unofficial mascot called "Schuss" had already appeared at the 1968 Winter Games in Grenoble.
