Lillehammer bids to host 2016 Youth Olympic Games

The NOC of Norway has put forward the city of Lillehammer, which successfully hosted the XVII Olympic Winter Games in 1994, as a Candidate City for the 2nd Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) in 2016. 

As part of the YOG Candidature Procedure, the NOC and Candidate City will take part in an IOC workshop in Lausanne on 11 May 2010, and will have until 15 November 2010 to submit a Candidature File. Following the report of an IOC Evaluation Commission and a postal vote by the IOC members, the announcement of the Host City for the 2nd Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2016 will take place in May 2011.

The Candidate City will also be able to take part this summer in the IOC Observers’ Programme at the 1st Summer Youth Olympic Games in Singapore (14 – 26 August 2010).

The 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games will take place in Innsbruck, Austria in January 2012.
