Lillehammer 2016 Media Advisory

There are just four days to go until the Opening Ceremony of the Lillehammer Youth Olympic Games, which are being held from 12 to 21 of February. For those who are travelling to Lillehammer, and for those who will be reporting on the event remotely, you will find below some essential information for your coverage of the Games:

Broadcast-quality footage:

For Rights-Holding Broadcasters, please contact OBS, which will be able to share pre-Games footage as well as extensive Games-time footage. You will also have access to all the below elements.

For non-Rights-Holding Broadcasters:

You will find extensive broadcast-quality footage of our Youth Olympic Games Ambassadors — Alpine skiing superstar Lindsey Vonn (USA), snowboard slopestyler Silje Norendal (NOR), New York Rangers ice hockey player Mats Zuccarello (NOR), figure skating champion Yuna Kim (KOR) and Alpine skier Kjetil Jansrud (NOR) — already available, please click here to download.

We will produce three to four Video News Releases per day which will include the gold-medal sporting moment, the medal ceremony and a short interview of the athlete in his/her language. You can be alerted as soon as a video becomes available. All videos will be posted on our platform with scripts and log sheets; you just need to sign in here: www.iocnewsroom.com.

The photo Youth Information Service (YIS) will be uploading a huge number of publishing-quality photos daily here: http://yogphotos.com/.

The YIS Photo team includes eight world-renowned sports photographers, including multi-award winning Sports Illustrated photographers Bob Martin, Simon Bruty and Al Tielemans.

Editorial content

The YIS coverage will include detailed sports reports on the competitions, feature articles on emerging young athletes and articles focusing on the various cultural and educational initiatives featured in the YOG. The sports reports created by the YIS reporting team will be published on the official website of Lillehammer 2016 www.lillehammer2016.com, and will be available for use, free of copyright, for editorial purposes. The competition results will be available daily on the same website.

Further content will be available on www.olympic.org with daily updates on the main stories of the day.

GAMES-TIME MEDIA EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES 

Press conferences:  

Two IOC press conferences will take place during the Games at Håkons Hall:

12 February at 12 p.m. (local time): Opening press conference with IOC President Thomas Bach

21 February at 10.30 a.m. (local time): Closing press conference with IOC President Thomas Bach

We will keep you posted about further media events that will be organised on site. 

There will be interview opportunities with:

39 Young Ambassadors who have been mandated to promote the Games in their respective countries and support the athletes during Games time. To see the full list, please click here

15 Athlete Role Models (ARMs) – please click here to see the full list. ARMs are the Olympians and champions who will be mentoring the 1,100 participating athletes.

The media will be offered the chance to follow them while they interact with the young participating athletes during the Learn & Share activities. Please contact pressoffice@olympic.org for their availability.

We can also help you get in contact with competitors via their National Olympic Committees.

There will be additional media opportunities:

Media have will have access to the Learn & Share venues as well as the Sjoggfest.

The Learn & Share part of the YOG allows athletes to enrich their YOG experience beyond the field of play. A full programme will be available for athletes to learn essential skills and acquire knowledge, covering topics such as healthy eating, the dangers of doping and illegal betting, environmental protection and advice on their future careers.

Sjoggfest is the cultural festival with more than 200 small and big events that will take place during the nine festival days in February, spread over a variety of existing and temporary venues in Lillehammer. A free cultural event for everyone involving music, art, films and much, much more. The place to be this Feb!

Media Briefing for Accredited Media: A media briefing for accredited media will be held at Håkons Hall (Learn & Share venue) at 1 p.m. on 12 February. At this meeting, Lillehammer 2016 and IOC Media Operations will present the facilities and services available for the media at the Youth Olympic Games, such as the Main Media Centre, venues, Youth Olympic Village, transport, photo operations, the Opening Ceremony, filming in the venues and Village Square, and other topics.
