Li-Ning Company joins the Chinese commemorative stone club in The Olympic Museum Donors’ Wall

On Tuesday 26 July, Li-Ning Company Ltd engraved its name in gold on the Olympic Museum’s Donors’ Wall. This is the eighth one-million-dollar commemorative stone that has been offered by a Chinese company.

The donation ceremony took place in the presence of IOC President Jacques Rogge and Li Ning, three-time Olympic champion and two-time world champion in artistic gymnastics and founder
of the company making the donation.

Accompanying them were Yelena Isinbayeva, two-time Olympic and two-time world champion in athletics; Asafa Powell, Olympic and world champion in athletics; Zhang Yining, four-time Olympic and five-time world champion in table tennis; and a delegation from the Chinese media.

In his speech, the IOC President praised the exemplary symbol represented by Li Ning, the first gold medallist to become, through his company, an Olympic Museum donor.

When Li Ning spoke, he underlined the pride and honour felt on this special day, referring to the strength of the Olympic spirit and the role of The Olympic Museum in passing on this spirit.

With one year to go until the Opening Ceremony of the London Olympic Games, Li Ning recalled the pride that reigned in China at the start of the countdown to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games.
