Lausanne 2020 calls on the fresh minds of local students

Who better to understand what makes young people tick than a group of 250 university students!

Pushing the boundaries of innovation has become synonymous with the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) and with that in mind, the organisers of the Lausanne 2020 Winter YOG have tapped the fertile minds of local digital media students from the prestigious University of Lausanne (UNIL) for their ideas on how to make the YOG not only the most talked about youth sporting event, but also the most viral.

Taking the Organising Committee back to the lecture theatre, the students were invited for three sessions: knowledge gathering from sport and digital experts, brainstorming and then their final presentations. Eighteen groups presented their ideas from catchy hashtag campaigns and augmented reality treasure hunts to the integration of the latest communication technology to put the Youth Olympics firmly on the digital map!

The Lausanne 2020 team is ensuring that young people are at the heart of the organisation at every stage to ensure the they are creating Games not only for young people, but also by young people.  The Ecole d’Art et Communication (ERACOM) is supporting the YOG with design elements such as pictograms and the “Look of the Games”; the Ecole Hotelière de Lausanne (EHL) will collaborate on accommodation, food and beverage, athlete health and well-being and volunteer concepts; and the UNIL will also offer expertise on staff engagement, sustainability and venue development.
