IOC Young Reporters announced for Lausanne 2020
The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is pleased to announce the names of the Young Reporters who will be covering the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Lausanne 2020 next January as part of the IOC Young Reporters programme.
Sixteen Young Reporters. Sixteen countries. Five continents. Eight women. Eight men. They were selected from the 35 young reporters who participated in the sports journalism training programme held during the YOG Buenos Aires 2018. Each was originally nominated by their National Olympic Committee (NOC), and in all they represent 16 countries: Argentina, Australia, Barbados, China, Croatia, Dominica, Great Britain, India, Japan, Mexico, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Paraguay, Senegal, Spain and Sweden.
The 16 Young Reporters will continue their training in a winter event environment under the supervision and direction of highly experienced Olympic media mentors. The Young Reporters will all start together at the Main Press Centre located in Lausanne, and will then break into smaller reporting teams relocating to one of three main competition areas, in either Lausanne/Jura, the Alps or St Moritz.
“The experiences they shared at the summer YOG in Buenos Aires will now be taken to the next level as they continue to carve out their media careers with this most unique and unrivalled opportunity,” said Tracey Holmes, the lead mentor.
“The Young Reporters will build relationships that in some instances will last a lifetime. They will also learn more about the world around them and how they can make their mark in it - tapping into the core Olympic values of excellence, respect and friendship.”
The Young Reporters will arrive in Lausanne on 6 January, and will depart on 23 January. The IOC will cover the cost of their return economy airfares, twin-share accommodation, winter clothing and meals.
The Young Reporters video news packages will be available on the www.lausanne2020.sport website, with all the video, text, photographic and digital content they produce published on the Young Reporters’ social media platforms YouTube, Facebook, Twitter and Flickr. Their content will all be freely available to YOG athletes, NOCs and International Federations and the media, for republication for reporting and editorial purposes.
The Winter Youth Olympic Games will take place in Lausanne from 9 to 22 January 2020.
