IOC to Award 2005 Women & Sport Trophies

On International Women's Day, 8 March 2005, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will award the 2005 Women and Sport Trophies at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne. 


Present to award the trophies will be Anita DeFrantz, IOC member and Chairwoman of the IOC Women and Sport Commission, Denis Oswald, IOC Executive Board member and Urs Lacotte, IOC Director General. Also speaking at the ceremony will be IOC President Jacques Rogge and Flor Isava-Fonseca, first female member of the IOC and Honorary member since 2002 (via conference call).



The trophy, established in 2000, is awarded annually to a person (former athlete, coach, administrator or journalist) or to an institution or organisation in recognition of their outstanding contribution to developing, encouraging and strengthening the participation of women and girls in physical and sports activities, in coaching, and in administrative and sports leadership structures, as well as the promotion of women’s sport in the media and of women journalists. Five continental trophies and one at world level are awarded.
