IOC to Award 2002 Women & Sport Trophies
LAUSANNE, Switzerland (23 April 2002) - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) 2002 Women and Sport Trophies will be awarded on 26 April 2002 by Dr Jacques Rogge, IOC President, and Ms Anita DeFrantz, IOC member and Chairwoman of the IOC Women and Sport Working Group, in the presence of the Women and Sport Working Group members and the jury.
The trophy, established in 2000, is awarded annually to a woman or man (athlete, coach, administrator or journalist) or to an institution or organisation in recognition of her/his/its outstanding contribution to develop, encourage and strengthen the participation of women and girls in physical and sports activities, in coaching, and in administrative and sports leadership structures, as well as the promotion of women's sport in the media and of women journalists. Five continental trophies and one at world level are awarded.
