IOC SIGNS COOPERATION AGREEMENT WITH WORLD TOURISM ORGANIZATION
Lausanne, 25 October 1999 - The Presidents of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) and the World Tourism Organization (WTO) signed a cooperation agreement today aimed at further studying the relationship between sport and tourism.
Representatives of the IOC and the WTO will meet in a working group to develop a program that will seek to strengthen the links between sport and tourism. The goal will be to promote a better appreciation of these two activities, reinforce their solidarity and increase their joint contribution to understanding between people.
This agreement is another example of the IOC’s commitment to develop long-term cooperation with various organizations such as the United Nations, with which it has established concrete programs on the theme of sport and the Olympic Movement.
As part of this agreement, the first action to be implemented will be the First World Conference on Sport, Olympism and Tourism that will be jointly organised by the IOC and the WTO in Madrid next year.
