IOC PUBLISHES THE NEW LIST OF PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES AND METHODS
Lausanne, 31 August 2001 - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) is today publishing the new list of prohibited substances and methods. This list, the result of collaboration between the IOC and the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA), will come into force on 1 September 2001, and will be valid until the end of 2002.
On 14 August 2001, the monitoring group of the Council of Europe’s Anti-Doping Convention gave its approval to the adoption of this list.
The main new feature is the particular focus on athletes seeking authorisation to use anti-asthma medication. A full medical file will be asked for, and this will be studied. New tests can then be ordered actually during the Olympic Games if the file appears insufficiently well-supported.
In addition, prior notification for corticosteroids is reintroduced if the rules of the International Federation concerned provide for this.
