IOC President Thomas Bach meets Czech President Milos Zeman today in Prague

The meeting between the two leaders comes ahead of the General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees in the Czech capital.

The two leaders discussed sport in the Czech Republic and its positive role in society. President Bach noted that relative to the size of its population the Czech Republic is a very successful sporting and Olympic nation and he thanked the President for his on-going support for the National Olympic Committee and also for the IOC.

President Bach also talked about the recent adoption of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by the United Nations General Assembly in which sport is described as ‘an important enabler’ of sustainable development.

The Czech President emphasized that working with the National Olympic Committee they are already undertaking many actions with regard to sport and education and the spreading of the Olympic Values and promised to strengthen his support in this respect.

President Zeman also accepted an invitation to attend the Opening Ceremony of the Olympic Games Rio de Janeiro 2016.
