IOC President meets with European Commissioner Ján Figel'

The IOC President today met in Lausanne with Ján Figel', European Commissioner for Education, Training, Culture and Multilingualism, also in charge of sport, youth and relations with civil society.
They discussed the role of sport within the European Union and Commissioner Figel’ presented the concept of a White Paper dedicated to sport in the EU. A consultation paper, the White paper will cover three main areas: the social role of sport in the EU, the economic dimension of sport and the governance of sport. President Rogge and Commissioner Figel’ agreed to establish a regular dialogue in the consultation process leading to this White Paper.
President Rogge also took the opportunity to touch upon the UNESCO Convention against Doping in Sport and the need for governments in Europe to sign the convention to efficiently contribute to the fight against doping, one of the Olympic Movement’s main priorities."
