The pair discussed the preparations for the upcoming Olympic Games Tokyo 2020. President Bach was able to assure the Emperor that they were progressing very well.

The Emperor was pleased to hear of proposals to hold some events of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 in the disaster-affected area of the country following the 2011 tsunami.

“The Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 will send a very strong message of peace and solidarity as Rio has done,” he said.
