IOC President honoured with title of Doctor Honoris Causa

Today, the University of Galileo in Guatemala City honoured IOC President Jacques Rogge with the title of Doctor Honoris Causa. On this occasion, Rogge also inaugurated the Faculty of Sport Sciences where future sports educators are prepared to teach young Guatemalan people the principles of Olympic philosophy. “The graduates of this Faculty, like those of other institutions elsewhere, are the backbone of the development of sport and the promotion of its values in Guatemala and beyond. Thus, the sports world and the academic world must continue to encourage young people to participate in sport and physical activity in a spirit of fair play, hence contributing to their overall well being,” stated the IOC President in his acceptance speech.
The Olympic family is currently gathering for the IOC Executive Board meeting, kicking off tomorrow, and the 119th IOC Session in Guatemala City.
