IOC Executive Board Rules on Athlete Entry Appeals

The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee today took the following decisions: - to grant the application of athlete Arturo Kinch (Costa Rica, cross country skiing) for belated entry as a competitor in the XIX Olympic Winter Games: The athlete who had qualified under normal procedures claimed his denial of entry was due to a miscommunication between SLOC and his NOC. The IOC Executive Board, noting his qualification and the support of his National Olympic Committee, granted his entry. - to deny the application of Gaia Bassani-Antivari's (Granada, skiing) to compete in the XIX Olympic Winter Games. The IOC found no violation of the Olympic Charter in this case and therefore had no reason to overturn the decision of the Grenada Olympic Association who decided not to enter the athlete. The entry of the Costa Rican NOC increases the number of NOCs participating in the XIX Olympic Winter Games to 78.
