IOC Executive Board meeting in Lausanne in June – Information for the media


The Executive Board (EB) of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) will meet in Lausanne on 22 and 23 June 2010.

The IOC Executive Board will select the Candidate Cities for hosting the XXIII Olympic Winter Games in 2018 during its first day of meetings on 22 June. The current Applicant Cities are as follows: Munich (Germany), Annecy (France), and PyeongChang (Republic of Korea)*.

The EB will also hear the reports from IOC commissions and directors, and will receive updates on the preparations for the forthcoming Olympic Games in London 2012, Sochi 2014, Rio de Janeiro 2016 and the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore 2010 and Innsbruck 2012.

On 23 June, the IOC will celebrate Olympic Day and will award the 2010 Women and Sport Trophies.

Media representatives who will not travel to Lausanne will have the possibility to listen to the Press briefing on 22 June as well as the President’s press conference on 23 June by teleconference.

About the 2018 bidding process

As soon as the names of the 2018 Candidate Cities are announced on 22 June, the report by the Working Group that reviewed each Applicant City’s questionnaire will be posted on the IOC website www.olympic.org.

Munich, Annecy and PyeongChang were invited to the 2010 Vancouver Olympic Winter Games as part of the Observer Programme. They all submitted their responses to the IOC Candidature Acceptance Procedure questionnaire by 15 March. For full details about the 25-question questionnaire, please click here

The next phase will be the submission of their Candidature File and guarantees to the IOC, which will take place by 11 January 2011, followed by the visits of the Evaluation Commission to each Candidate City between February and March 2011. The report by the Evaluation Commission will be published by 6 June 2011. The election of the 2018 host city will take place in Durban, South Africa, on 6 July 2011.

About the Women and Sport Trophies.

Every year, the IOC awards Women and Sport Trophies to women who have made tremendous contributions to strengthening the participation of women and girls in sport on an international level.

National Olympic Committees (NOCs), International Federations (IFs) and Continental Associations were invited to submit candidatures, and the winners were selected by the IOC Women and Sport Commission. For further information on the Women and Sport Commission, please click here.
