IOC Executive Board admits two nationality changes

The Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee has, today, accepted the requests of two athletes to change nationality based on article 42 of the Olympic Charter.

Barbara Ertl and Joseph Strobl
The changes concern the biathlete Barbara Ertl, who last competed for Germany at the European Championships in Norwosipirsk in February 2005 and who will now compete at the XX Olympic Winter Games in Turin for Italy. The second athlete was Josef Strobl, who last competed for Austria in an FIS competition in Ramsau in 2004 and who will compete at the Turin Games for Slovenia.

Two different reasons
The reasons for the changes are different: Barbara Ertl has married an Italian and has decided to take her husband’s nationality. Josef Strobl resides just across the Slovenian-Austria border. He has acquired Slovenian nationality and he is willing to compete for Slovenia at the Games.
