IOC APPROVES EPO TEST FOR SYDNEY OLYMPIC GAMES

Lausanne, 28 August 2000 - The IOC Executive Board, upon recommendation from the Juridical Commission, decided to approve the test for EPO, recommended by the IOC Medical Commission, on the occasion of the Olympic Games in Sydney, which test consists of two elements, analysis of blood and urine samples.

When both such elements are positive, the test shall constitute a positive case of doping. Only one blood sample shall be required for purposes of the test, not the usual “A” and “B” samples as are used for urine samples.
