The phones will have the IOC-developed “Olympic Athletes’ Hub” app installed. With the app, athletes will be able to connect directly to the IOC and the IOC Athletes’ Commission and can also learn about all the resources and programmes the IOC is making available to them. For the first time ever, the Rio 2016-inspired edition will incorporate an Olympic Games design, featuring the Olympic rings.
Samsung began its Olympic Games involvement as a local sponsor of the Olympic Games Seoul 1988. Beginning with the Olympic Winter Games Nagano 1998, the company extended its commitment to the Olympic Movement as the Worldwide Olympic Partner in the Wireless Communications Equipment category. Samsung’s commitment as a Worldwide Olympic Partner continues through to PyeongChang 2018, and Tokyo 2020.
In their commitment to spread the Olympic spirit, ahead of the Olympic Games Rio 2016 Samsung has also teamed up with Academy Award-winning director Morgan Neville to create “A Fighting Chance”, an Olympic Games short documentary that tells the untold stories of four athletes on their quest to overcome remarkable odds to compete at the Olympic Games Rio 2016.
In addition, Samsung has worked with the Rio 2016 Organising Committee to develop the official application of Rio 2016, “The Rio 2016 App”. The app will provide athletes, fans and consumers with 24/7 updates on all of the latest Olympic news. Fans will also be able to share in the excitement at the Samsung Galaxy Studio which will present consumers and spectators with interactive product experiences and events at the Olympic Park and Athletes’ Village.
