How to… be a role model

How to… be a role model Athletes often find themselves in the spotlight but what you do with this exposure and recognition can define you as a person.

The 3,600 elite young athletes who participated in the Youth Olympic Games in Singapore last year all have the opportunity to be role models and leaders in their communities. The Culture and Education Programme was designed to show them how to make the most of this opportunity and how to handle their position responsibly.

The various activities on offer explored how to set a good example by living by the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. The Athlete Role Models were also on hand to share their experiences of the importance of giving something back to your local community. Whether it’s helping out at your school or sports club, or getting involved with local environmental or social issues, it’s clear the more you give, the more you get back!
