On social media, the #OlympicDay hashtag is proving hugely popular. Large numbers of athletes, from international stars Ronaldo, Chris Froom and Yuna Kim to talented youngsters, National Olympic Committees, National and International Federations are enthusiastically promoting and organising Olympic Day events on 23 June. The message is the same each time: get active!
Both football world champions and Olympic medallists, Brazilian striker Ronaldo and Spanish defender Carles Puyol fondly remember taking part in the Games and are getting involved with Olympic Day! Like many other athletes, they want everyone to get active on 23 June. The legendary FC Barcelona player has posted a video of highlights of his Sydney 2000 exploits, writing “great memories!” to inspire his 9.93 million Twitter followers.

The Vancouver 2010 ice skating queen, Yuna Kim, has posted a video of her outstanding achievements on skates with the message: “At the @Olympics, I did this. Let it inspire you to get active for #OlympicDay on 23 June. What are you going to do?”

Rio 2016 team artistic gymnastics gold medallist Madison Kocian has chosen this message: “My experience at the Olympics was unforgettable. Hopefully it inspires you to get active for #OlympicDay on June 23rd! What are you going to do to celebrate Olympic Day?”

World Rugby has posted a drawing of the captain of Canada’s bronze medal-winning rugby sevens team at the Games in 2016, writing: “At Rio 2016, we got inspired by heroes of our sport...like @jen_kish! To promote Olympic Day, the Italian Olympic Committee (CONI) has published a video of speed skater Francesca Lollobrigida, saying: “Sport is great and fun. It keeps you fit and, above all, in good health. Do sport everywhere, morning, afternoon and evening, and have fun!”

The International Skating Union (ISU) shows Dutch speed skater Floor van den Brandt in action: “Remember when you gave 110%? Get active for #OlympicDay #Speed Skating!” For their part, Venezuela’s Olympians have posted a countdown to 23 June on social media: “Move, learn and discover! On 23 June, Venezuela is getting active to the rhythm of Olympism.”
