First South American Laboratory Receives IOC Accreditation

The IOC recently granted accreditation to the LADETEC laboratory in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. LADETEC is the first South American laboratory to receive IOC accreditation, which allows it to test samples collected by doping control programmes worldwide.

The IOC requires accredited laboratories to meet ISO guidelines, and has included the corresponding requirements and accreditation procedure in the Olympic Movement Anti-Doping Code. LADETEC now complies with these requirements, and is thus deemed fully accredited.

There are currently 27 IOC-accredited doping control laboratories around the world. Their status is reviewed annually.
