Face-off at the 1st Vancouver coordination commission meeting

The 1st Coordination Commission for the XXI Olympic Winter Games, Vancouver 2010, gets underway today, 30 March. Described as the "warm-up in a hockey game" by Coordination Commission Chairman René Fasel, the three-day meeting will provide an excellent opportunity for the Commission to get to know the Vancouver 2010 representatives.

Busy Schedule
The meeting has a packed agenda that will allow the Commission and the representatives of Vancouver 2010 to establish the basis of their work together over the next six years. Commission members will also have the opportunity to meet and talk to Vancouver 2010’s new CEO, John Furlong, who was officially appointed last month.

Venue Visits
While in Vancouver, the Coordination Commission will take the opportunity to visit the sites of the Olympic venues in both Vancouver and Whistler. This will enable the Commission members to familiarise themselves with the geographical layout of the venues and give them a taste of what lies ahead.

11-Member Commission
The Coordination Commission is composed of 11 members: René Fasel, Commission Chairman, Fraser Bullock, Ottavio Cinquanta, Gian-Franco Kasper, Gunilla Lindberg, José Luis Marco, the Prince of Orange, Tsunekazu Takeda, Rita Van Driel and Pernilla Wiberg, and the IOC Olympic Games Executive Director, Gilbert Felli.
