Exciting new events added to Lillehammer 2016 programme

The second edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) set to take place in Lillehammer in 2016 has just got cooler with the addition of eight new high adrenaline events making their debut on the YOG programme.

One event sure to get the crowd going is snowboard cross - a fast-paced event that will see four snowboarders at a time race to the finish line while navigating a series of drops, jumps and turns.

Another crowd-pleaser to join the programme is ski slopestyle, a freestyle event held in a terrain park in which athletes ski the same jumps, rails and boxes showcasing their own unique tricks and aerial manoeuvres. Check out this video with YOG athlete Kai Mahler for the full low-down:

Further highlights include an exhilarating monobob race event, replacing the two-person  bobsleigh event, as well as two YOG exclusives:  a speed skating mixed National Olympic Committee (NOC) team sprint that will bring together athletes from different countries, and a Nordic team event that will mix genders and include ski jumping, cross-country skiing, biathlon and Nordic combined.

The remaining events to be added are cross-country cross and a team ski snowboard cross event! We can’t wait to watch all the action! What are you most excited to see? Tell us on our Facebook page:
