DEATH OF MR YUSHIRO YAGI, PRESIDENT OF THE JAPANESE OLYMPIC COMMITTEE
Lausanne, 10 September 2001 - The International Olympic Committee (IOC) was saddened to learn today of the death in Osaka of Mr Yushiro Yagi, President of the Japanese Olympic Committee since 1999.
A former member of the eligibility committee of the International Ski Federation and vice-president of the Ski Association of Japan, Mr Yagi was chef de mission at the XVIII Olympic Winter Games in Nagano in 1998 and at the Games of the XXVII Olympiad in Sydney last year. He was also supporting Osaka as candidate city for the organisation of the Olympic Games in 2008.
The IOC expresses its deepest sympathy to Mr Yagi’s family as well as to the Japanese Olympic Committee and the country's sports community.
