Cycling: qualifications for Athens
On the basis of the International Cycling Union (UCI)’s individual and by national rankings, as of 30 April 2004, and in accordance with the rules in force, the UCI has allocated places to the countries qualified for the road events for the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens.
145 places for men, 67 for women
In all, 145 places have been allocated to men and 67 to women. Among the men qualified for the road event, 40 will also be able to qualify for the time trial. The women’s events are allocated as follows: 67 places for the road event and 25 for the timed event. In total, 42 countries will be able to take part in the men’s competitions and 30 in the women’s.
Confirmation expected from the National Olympic Committees
These figures will change according to the NOCs’ confirmations. Vacant positions will be allocated by the UCI in the form of invitations from the Tripartite Commission, then as reserve places. The deadline for the final reallocation of places is 30 June 2004.
