Cyclers get ready for final event in Buenos Aires
The cycling competition offered a new kind of show at the Green Park circuit with the last combined team race before the final event for the medals.
The mountain bike races were held at Green Park on Tuesday, a warm weather day that set the perfect mood for an event where some athletes worked together as a team, motivating each other regardless of the colours of their flags.
When Austrian Laura Stigger crossed the finish line, she shouted: "I love you Harriet, you are the best!" She then hugged Great Britain’s Harriet Harnden, who crossed the line behind her. The reason for such gratitude was that Harnden helped Stigger win and place Austria in the second place in the general standings. Denmark’s Sofie Heby Pedersen finished after them and put her country in third place in the standings.
On the men’s side, the surprising winner was Hungarian Erik Fetter, followed by Yevgeniy Fedorov of Kazakhstan and Nicolas Kess of Luxembourg. But Kazakhstan is still at the top in the general standings, with Luxembourg in second place and Hungary in third.
The combined criterium, which will take place on Wednesday, is the last race where the medals will be awarded after adding up all the combined events for women and men.
