A series of presentations, panel discussions and workshops set the agenda for specific topics to be explored in detail. The Competence Project prepared the participants for their future careers as professional athletes. It was based on five workshops.
Meet the Role Model – In this activity, current and former professional athletes shared their knowledge and gave young participants advice as they address specific topics and speak more generally about their careers. Additional panel discussions gave the athletes the chance to contribute to debates on a range of issues. Three evening sessions, each with a capacity of up to 200 participants, were held during the Youth Olympic Games. Simultaneous interpretation was provided for English, German, French and Russian.
Be the Chef! Cook Healthy, Stay Fit – In this workshop, participants learned about nutrition and the importance of a balanced diet and hydration as well as the right way to cook. Twice a day, 30 participants could prepare their own healthy, easy-to-make meals. Cooking tips and recipes were provided for the athletes after the activity.
Act on Your Time / Balance Your Act – These workshops showcased the importance of a balanced education and effective time management during an athlete’s career. The different opportunities available to athletes after the end of their careers were also addressed. Small groups meant that all the participants could get involved and benefit from personal advice.
Prepare to Compete – This workshop addressed the issues of injury prevention and rehabilitation, overtraining, diet and hydration as well as the recovery process. Small groups meant that all the participants could get involved and benefit from personal advice.
