Buenos Aires gets behind Olympic Day!

The city that will host the 2018 Summer Youth Olympic Games celebrated Olympic Day this week in true “YOG” style, with sporting action on offer across the city for everyone to take part in.

The celebrations were kicked off earlier this month in Buenos Aires’ Palermo Woods with bike tours, walks and roller-skating around the lake on the programme. Kids at the event were invited to take fun snaps and apply them to a huge “2018” billboard as a celebration of the upcoming Buenos Aries 2018 Youth Olympic Games.

Elsewhere in the city, more than 500 people of all ages took part in a hugely popular 3x3 basketball tournament, a format that debuted at the first Youth Olympic Games in Singapore. Star of the Argentine basketball team and Olympic bronze medallist Juan Gutierrez was watching as the first matches of the tournament took place – who knows, there may have been a future YOG athlete out there!

Francisco Irarràzaval, COO of the Buenos Aires 2018 Organising Committee, said: “We are grateful for the collaboration and commitment of the National Federations and athletes in the organisation of the Olympic Day celebration. We are proud of the work we are doing together towards the Buenos Aires 2018 Youth Olympic Games”.

Worldwide TOP partner Coca-Cola got behind the event with merchandise giveaways, ensuring that the athletes and the public were hydrated and able to enjoy the day of sport.
