Beijing celebrates 2008 victory
This past Sunday Beijing celebrated its second anniversary commemorating their victory as future host city of the 2008 Olympic Summer Games.
A series of cultural and sports events were staged in a main venue in the city's Longtan Park and other 17 sub-venues. Some 12,000 people participated in a celebratory 8-kilometre run that started in Tiananmen Square and ended at the Millennium Monument, an outdoor stage in western Beijing.
College students also put on artistic performances. In some of the other varied celebrations, ballroom dancers and roller skaters took the stage in many parks.
A cast of outstanding athletes were present such as Olympic table tennis champion Deng Yaping and figure skating world champions Shen Xue and Zhao Hongbo.
BEIJING will host the Games of the XXIX Olympiad from the 8th August to 24th August 2008.
