Athletes rock the Village!
So you think the life of a Young Olympian is all competition and training? Not in the Village it’s not! Since the athletes arrived over 10 days ago, the Village has been buzzing with life. Not only is it a place for the 3,600 athletes to make friends, it is also THE place to party, and most of the partying happens in one place – the Village Square!
"My aim is just to make friends,” said 17-year-old Taiese Tapumanaia from Tuvalu, who has been competing in the girls' badminton tournament.
During the day, the Square is bustling with the World Culture Village, where athletes can wander around different booths and learn all about the different countries, foods and customs. And during the night, the athletes can let off some steam at the evening festivals, featuring live music from international bands… so if you think an athlete at the Youth Olympic Games finishes their competition and goes to sit in an ice bath to recover their muscles, think again! They like to party!
