Athletes get pumped for the first Winter Youth Olympic Games
The Tyrol Room at Congress Hall was bursting at the seams last night as over 1,000 athletes packed the room for the welcome session of the first Winter Youth Olympic Games.
At first gathered in their team huddles, distinguished by their matching country jackets, as soon as the DJ started spinning the decks and the music started pumping, the tight groups began relaxing and dispersing, as the soon-to-be competitors began meeting, greeting and catching up with each other.
The evening was full of entertainment, including an awesome performance of the official YOG song, supported by some impressive break dancing and even some traditional Tyrolean dance.
Yoggl made an appearance along with the 33 Young Ambassadors, who gave a performance of their drumming skills, a workshop featured as part of the Culture and Education Programme. The Athlete Role Models, including local luge hero Markus Prock, took to the stage to great applause, as did YOG Ambassador Yuna Kim, who made a surprise entrance, much to the delight of the crowd.Speaking at the event, one of the young athletes said: “This is a fantastic way to start the Games, there is so much energy and excitement... I can’t wait to be a part of it!”
