Athlete question time with Angelica Bengtsson!
We asked a few questions to gold medallist in girls’ pole vault, Angelica Bengtsson from Sweden. Thrilled to compete for her country, the 17 year-old who received her gold medal from pole vault champion Yelena Isinbayeva, even painted the Swedish flag on her nails!
Q. How much have you enjoyed the Youth Olympic Games?
A. It has been really fun. I met a lot of new people from all over the world and the competition was great. I was really happy with my performance.
Q. How do the Youth Olympic Games compare to other championships that you've competed in?
A. They are much bigger! We live in a village as well. It's big, but it's fun, and it was really inspiring seeing the Olympic rings in the stadium when we were competing.
Q. How much do you think this experience will help prepare you for the future?
A. It's a big step towards the Olympic Games because this is very different to the junior world championships. We are here for a much longer time, living in a village, and it's so big. It's a good start.
Q. What was the atmosphere like when you were competing?
A. The crowd were great. They were applauding every time I cleared a height which made it really fun. Also, the people here are very nice and very friendly.
