Athens 2004: Eight teams qualified for volleyball tournaments
Following the Continental Olympic Tournaments, staged between 5 and 11 January 2004 on four continents, eight out of 12 teams have qualified for the Olympic men's and women's volleyball tournament in Athens.
Eight out of 12 teams
For the men's tournament, the following teams have qualified so far: Greece, Brazil, Italy, Serbia and Montenegro, Russia, United States of America, Argentina and Tunisia. For the women's tournaments, the participants so far are: Greece, China, Brazil, United States of America, Germany, Cuba, Dominican Republic and Kenya.
World Olympic Qualification Tournaments
The remaining teams will be qualified in World Olympic Qualification Tournaments organised by the International Volleyball Federation. For the women, one of these tournaments is planned for 8 to 16 May 2004 in Tokyo, and for the men three tournaments will be held between 21 and 30 May in Spain, Portugal and Japan.
Peace and Friendship Stadium
During the Athens 2004 Olympic Games, the volleyball competition will take place at the Peace and Friendship Stadium at the Faliro Coastal Zone Olympic Complex, which has a total capacity of 14,000 seats. The competition programme will span over 16 days, from 14 to 29 August 2004.
