At the Museum, the celebration was also a success…

Many people, IOC staff and scores of visitors, followed the Opening Ceremony live on the big screen in the auditorium and took part in the festivities organised to mark the start of these Games of the XXIX Olympiad in Beijing.

Same wonderment and same emotion
An ideal time difference: 8 o’clock in the evening in Beijing and 2 o’clock in the afternoon in Lausanne! The same wonderment and the same emotion at these spectacular images. We knew that the Chinese were masters of showmanship and light shows, but they exceeded all our expectations…

Taijiquan in front of the Museum and Chinese food at the restaurant
It began in a very “zen” way in front of the Musem with an introduction to taijiquan, the best way of facing a day that was going to be very long for some people… At the end of the afternoon, an aperitif was hosted by The Olympic Museum, with the possibility to have something to eat (Chinese food, of course) at the restaurant. Then, for those who didn’t have the opportunity to be there at the beginning of the afternoon, there was a broadcast of the highlights of the Opening Ceremony. Images that many enjoyed seeing again.

Amazing concert in the auditorium
Ending the day was the exceptional concert by Jing Yang, one of the great virtuosos of the pipa (a traditional string instrument) accompanied by Swiss musicians. Amazing!

Physical and cultural activities until 24 August
Until 24 August, there will be broadcasts of the events and various activities, all linked to the Middle Kingdom.
