A happy couple

Opened on 23 June 1993 by the then IOC President, Juan Antonio Samaranch, the Olympic Museum celebrated its tenth anniversary in June this year. On Thursday 21 August, barely two months later, it welcomed its 2,000,000th visitor: two Swiss friends who had decided to visit the Olympic Museum while on vacation.

It was Yves Detrey, one of the Alinghi crew members, and Museum Director Françoise Zweifel who presented them with the certificate confirming that they would receive two plane tickets and two tickets to attend the Closing Ceremony of the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad in Athens, in August 2004. "We shall take advantage of this opportunity to see some of the events as well, such as ‘old’ sports like wrestling, discus or javelin", they said.
