3,753 kilometres, 2,012 torchbearers, 65 sites and one Youth Olympic Torch Relay

The Innsbruck 2012 Youth Olympic flame began its journey today, leaving the host city to spread its light across the whole of Austria.

The official route of the Innsbruck 2012 Youth Olympic Torch Relay will cover an impressive 3,753km over 18 days, will reach as high as 2,020m and skirt the border of Hungary in the east and the border of Switzerland in the west.

The torch will be carried by 2,012 national and international torch-bearers from 30 countries, spanning seven decades and including no fewer than six Olympians. It will visit a total of 65 sites, including the major cities of Vienna, Salzburg, Linz and Graz, and arrive back in Innsbruck for the Opening Ceremony on 13 January - the third time an Olympic flame has been lit in this city, following the Olympic Winter Games in 1964 and 1976.
