25,000 People Welcome The Olympic Flame in Toronto
The Olympic flame was greeted at its evening celebration in Toronto last week by a crowd of around 25,000 people. The streets of Canada’s most populous city were packed as the flame made its way through Ontario’s provincial capital. Of particular interest was the leg run by Bollywood star Akshay Kumar, which saw thousands of people fill Yonge Street to see the actor carry the torch. The Olympic Torch Relay is now making its way around the rest of Ontario, and on Monday will visit the world-famous Niagara Falls.
As part of the Relay’s journey across Canada, it took a small trip past the Toronto Sick Kids Hospital, where over 1,500 people, including hundreds of waiting children, were able to experience the Olympic flame. This meant that a number of children who would otherwise have been unable to see the flame could share in the experience, and for some fulfil an ambition to see the Olympic Torch Relay.
