2010 Olympic Emblem Design Competition
Interest in designing the logo for the 2010 Winter Games is building, with only two weeks to go until the closing date for submissions. The Vancouver Organising Committee for the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games (VANOC) has already received more than 100 entries for the Vancouver 2010™ Olympic Emblem Design Competition.
Magic of Athens; uniquely Greek design
"We have just witnessed the colour, pageantry and artistic magic of the Athens 2004 Summer Games," said John Furlong, Chief Executive Officer of VANOC. "From the flags and banners lining the streets, public spaces and venues to the field of play, the Athens Organising Committee captured the energy and people's passion for the Games with a uniquely Greek design", he added. Used in thousands of display opportunities, a Games emblem is seen by billions of people.
"The Look of the Games starts with the emblem," said Furlong. "Once we have a logo that will depict the theme of Canada's 2010 Winter Games, we will develop our own unique design to create an electric atmosphere for athletes and spectators throughout our Games host region."
Competition open to Canadian designers
The Vancouver 2010 Olympic Emblem Design Competition is open to Canadian designers, creative professionals and design students. The deadline for submissions is 15 September 2004. The winning emblem design will earn a prize of $25,000 and two tickets to the Vancouver 2010 Olympic Games Opening Ceremony. VANOC plans to unveil the new logo in early 2005.
