1st Winter YOG in 2012: bidding instructions!


The candidature procedure to elect the host city of the 1st Summer YOG in 2010 is well underway, and the election of the host city is due to take place by the end of February 2008.  Like for the first edition of the Summer YOG, the first edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games in 2012 will have to be planned and organised in a very short period of time.
 
In order to maximise the time allocated to the future host city to plan and organise the Winter YOG in 2012, the IOC will launch the candidate procedure according to the following schedule, approved today by the IOC Executive Board in Lausanne:

NOCs to inform the IOC of the name of a YOG Candidate City
6 March 2008
IOC workshop for 2012 YOG Candidate Cities
End March 2008
Submission of the YOG candidature file and other documents
19 June 2008
Shortlist of YOG Candidate Cities
4 August 2008
Report by the IOC Evaluation Commission
End October 2008
Recommendation by the IOC Executive Board on the YOG Candidate Cities to be submitted to the IOC members for election as host city
November 2008
Election of the host city of the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games
Announcement of the host city of the 1st Winter Youth Olympic Games and signature of the Youth Olympic Games Host City Contract
December 2008
 
Decision for 2014 and 2016 at IOC Session in Vancouver
The Executive Board also approved that the election of the host cities for the 2nd Summer YOG in 2014 and the 2nd Winter YOG in 2016 be held exceptionally at the same IOC Session in February 2010 in Vancouver.
