150,000 Official Volunteer Applications for the Olympic Games in Athens

The number of Official Volunteer applications for the Games of the XXVIII Olympiad reached 150,360 at the end of February, six months ahead of the Olympic Games. To meet the requirements of the 2004 Olympic and Paralympic Games, to be held in Athens, some 45,000 and 15,000 volunteers will be needed respectively.

34.6% from abroad
The breakdown of 150,000 candidate volunteer applications is as follows: 65.4% of candidate volunteers live in Greece, while 34.6% live abroad. Of these volunteers who live abroad, 25.15% are foreigners and 9.45% are Greeks abroad.

All candidate volunteers have been interviewed
Of the 150,360 candidate volunteers whose applications were received by the end of February, 67,950 have attended an interview in Athens or in the other Olympic cities, while more than 45,000 candidate volunteers living abroad have been interviewed by means of a special questionnaire.

56% candidate volunteers are women
The number of candidate volunteers to whom an Offer of Voluntary Employment has been made already exceeds 15,000 as the Organising Committee is proceeding with the Programme at a fast pace. According to the applications submitted, the availability of candidate volunteers in terms of working exceeds 15 days for 68% of the candidates. Fifty-six percent of candidate volunteers are women and 44% are men.
