As the outcome of a competition launched in collaboration with the Haute Ecole de Musique Vaud Valais Fribourg (HEMU), the song entitled "Start now" will be one of the emblems of the Games and the expression of the values of Lausanne 2020. Four young singers from the country's four linguistic regions lend their voices to the song around an English chorus.
The music of composer Gaspard Colin had been kept secret for many weeks when the official song of Lausanne 2020 was finally unveiled this morning and broadcast for the first time on Lausanne radio LFM. A contest had been launched in December 2018 to create the official song of the Games. Students and alumni from HEMU were invited to compose the song that would accompany the best young athletes in the world and their audiences during the 3rd Winter Youth Olympic Games. It was Gaspard Colin, former student of the jazz department of the HEMU, who won over the jury made up of members of the Organizing Committee including Virginie Faivre, representatives of the IOC and HEMU, a representative of the Lausanne 2020 Youth Council and a young volunteer.
“Start Now” is also the slogan of Lausanne 2020, an irresistible call to action.
This short, positive and engaging call to action is derived from the Lausanne 2020 candidature slogan – “This is where it starts” – and is targeted not only at the young athletes who will be competing in the Games, but also the young people of Switzerland and those beyond the host the country.
For the athletes, Lausanne 2020 can be the start of a new life, of a career on or off the field of play. It can be the start of new friendships, of new ambitions, and the start of an Olympic passion.
For the young people watching and enjoying Lausanne 2020, meanwhile, the event can be the start of new inspiration, as they discover the unique spirit of the Olympic Games for the first time. “Start now” also speaks to older audiences, representing not only the start of a new Games era in Lausanne, but also the emergence of new talents and a new Switzerland – one empowered by hosting the event.
The hope is that everyone will be able to take inspiration from the Games and interpret the “Start now” call to action in their own way.
”Start now” has been used throughout the Lausanne 2020 Torch Tour, which is currently making its way around the host nation, featuring on signs and banners at each stage and in social media posts.
