It’s hard to believe it’s been a whole year since all eyes were on London for the 2012 Olympic Games. Back then, we had no idea just what an impact those young athletes whom we first saw at the Singapore 2010 Youth Olympic Games would have. Champions were made, dreams realised and a whole new generation of sporting role models born.
Taking the experiences and lessons they learned in Singapore - not only on the field of play but off it, such as living in a village with athletes from other sports and countries and dealing with the media - an impressive 193 Youth Olympic Games graduates from 99 countries competed at the Games last summer, with a total of 25 medals won (8 gold; 8 silver; 9 bronze).
Over the next two weeks we will be looking back on those YOG triumphs at the London 2012 Olympic Games using the hashtag #1yearon across our Facebook page and Twitter channel, and also wishing all the YOG alumni success in their future careers. Thanks for waving the YOG flag high by being true to the Olympic values of excellence, friendship and respect. You rock!
