Safe Sport Webinar Series to help National Olympic Committees protect athletes

Following the success of the IOC Athlete Safeguarding Webinar Series for International Federations (IFs), which was presented in September and October 2019, we are now launching the IOC Safe Sport Webinar Series for National Olympic Committees (NOCs). This series aims to support NOCs around the world in developing and implementing safeguarding policies to better protect athletes.

  • The 11-part series will bring together leading regional and international experts from across the sporting spectrum to deliver informative and interactive online sessions, giving NOCs the opportunity to ask questions on areas of common challenges
  • The webinars, presented in four languages (English, French, Spanish and Arabic), will be split into continental regions in order to address culturally specific key challenges, facilitate peer-to-peer learning, and foster collaboration
  • The first webinars of the series are focused on the Association of NOCs of Africa (ANOCA) on 21 October (French) and 22 October (English), with registration available here.

As a values-based sports movement, we are united in our efforts to promote the protection of athletes and all participants from harassment and abuse in sport. This series hopes to give all NOCs the opportunity to listen, learn, and interact directly with leading experts in the field and to share best practices within their region.

Tailored to your region

The series consists of 11 individual webinars, each programmed specifically for different regions. The series kicks off in mid-October, focusing on the NOCs of ANOCA followed by Panam Sports in early November. To register for these sessions, please click here.

Dates and registration details will soon be made available for the webinars focusing on the NOCs of Europe (EOC), Oceania (ONOC) and Asia (OCA).

Expert and athlete voices

The webinar series will feature leading regional and international safeguarding experts and organisations, including representatives from the IOC and its Safe Sport Task Force, leaders from the NOCs in focus, leading universities and other key organisations.

It is important that we also ensure that the athlete voice is heard in the development of initiatives aimed ultimately at protecting you. For that reason, a number of athlete representatives will be featured in each session. For example, the ANOCA webinars will see Athletes365 Career+ Steering Committee member Kady Kanoute Tounkara and IOC Athletes’ Commission member Aya Medany speaking about challenging taboos in their respective regions; as well as representatives from the Athletes’ Commissions of the NOCs of Nigeria and of Mali, presenting how they used the Olympic Solidarity NOC Athletes’ Commission Activity Grant to share knowledge and information around Safe Sport.

Sharing best practices

By bringing together NOCs in continental sessions, these interactive webinars aim to foster collaboration, facilitate the sharing of best practices, and provide participants with tools and information to help move the dial from awareness to action.

We invite all NOC representatives and Athletes’ Commission members to join all of the webinar sessions, but especially those that are relevant to your continental region. We also invite you to share this information to others in your organisation whom you feel the webinar content may be applicable to.
