Why did I want to be a member of the IOC Athletes’ Commission?
Athletes are at the heart of the Games, so the IOC Athletes’ Commission has a crucial part to play to inspire the future of the Olympic Movement.
I wanted to be a member of this Commission to represent athletes and involve them in every decision. Our goal is to make sure all the athletes, whatever country they come from, can benefit from the best experience before and during the Games, and prepare their post-competition career.
What do the Olympic Games mean to me?
At my first Games in Sydney, I realised that Olympism meant much more than the pursuit of medals. At the Opening Ceremony, I experienced the enthusiasm of an entire stadium for athletes coming from more than 200 nations, united despite their differences. It was then when I understood that Olympism meant universalism in action.
That is why Olympic Solidarity is so important in order to keep the Olympic dream accessible to everyone.
