Dirk Nowitzki appointed Chair of FIBA Players’ Commission 

Dirk Nowitzki has been appointed as Chair of the FIBA Players’ Commission. The former German national team player was appointed by the FIBA Central Board, of which he will now be a member. Dirk is only the second Chair of the Commission since it was created in 2014. 

“I feel honoured to have been given this opportunity, and I am looking forward to representing the players within FIBA and bringing their voices to the table where decisions are made, Nowitzki said upon being appointed. I am excited to take on this new role and work alongside both active and retired players around the world to ensure the players interests are heard and continue the development of our beloved sport. 

Dirk had an illustrious career for Germany, and was consistently a star performer at numerous FIBA tournaments over his 15year career. Earlier this year, Dirk was a Global Ambassador for the 2019 FIBA World Cup.  

“Dirk is one of the greatest players ever to have played basketball, and is highly respected worldwide,” said FIBA Secretary General Andreas Zagklis. “He has had an exceptional career both with the NBA and with his national team, and will bring with him a huge amount of experience and knowledge. He is the perfect person for this position, and we look forward to working closely with him over the next term of office. 

Dirk will be joined by Jenni Screen of Australia as Deputy Chair of the Players’ Commission, along with the following members:

Nowitzki and the new Commission members will serve a fiveyear term (2019 – 2023).
